In “A Life Not Like Any Other,” Roberta Bandy shares how many new parents talk about counting the fingers and toes. With all accounted for, the parent breathes a sigh of relief—and hopefully gives thanks. But there are other parents whose only sigh is that which comes after many tears. What they see on the outside is not normal and for them there is no immediate relief—and sadly many never learn to give thanks. This is the story of such a child—unlike any other child born that particular day—yet a child whose life had hope, meaning, and purpose.

The Pain of Infertility

Many couples can relate to Rachel’s pain, “Give me children, or I’ll die” (Genesis 30:1). The desire to have a child for the infertile couple causes a very deep emotional and spiritual struggle. All Christians must be aware of this struggle and the need to listen to infertile couples. We are to “Help carry each other’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2 GOD’S WORD®).

A Mother’s Comfort

When little ones fall and scrape their knees, we often hear “Mommy!” even before “Owie!” It’s not medical attention they seek. (Although a “Princess” or Star Wars Band-Aid® will work wonders!) They seek comfort and the assurance that everything will be okay. What a tribute to mothers that the “God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3) compares His comfort to that of a mother.

Why a Womb? – A Life Sunday Sermon

Why a womb? If you were God and wanted to restore your people, if you were God and wanted to bring salvation to the “end of the earth” (v 6), if you were God and wanted to defeat sin, death, and Satan, if you were God and wanted to be glorified in all of this (v 3), why enter the world through a womb? Why not arrive on a white horse wielding a flashing sword accompanied by legions of angels and blazing chariots? Why a womb?
