The Volunteer Relations Team is making a special effort to help you, our Frontline—Life Advocates, Life Teams, and Life Chapters—find interesting projects that you can carry out in your own life ministries. To that end, we have begun adding summaries of projects done by other Frontline members to our bi-monthly Directions newsletters.
Life Project: LFL County Fair Display – One way to share life affirming information and materials is by reserving an exhibit space at a local county fair and setting up a staffed table.
Life Project: Bibs for Adults – Assisted living facilities and nursing homes often need bibs for adults. Here are some helpful hints to organize this project and get sewing.
Life Project: A New Twist on Diaper Drives – Host a diaper drive to gather protective underwear for adults. Nursing homes welcome these items because purchasing them can become a financial burden for those who need protective underwear.
Life Project: Gift Bags for PRC Clients – Many women coming to pregnancy resource centers are frightened and unsure about their future, but the items (such as a small Bible, bookmark, gift cards, handwritten note, etc.) in these gift bags may bring them hope and comfort.
Life Project: Bless the Years Weekend – Celebrate members in the congregation who are 85 years and older with special recognition during a worship service followed by a birthday cake and meal.
Life Project: Precious Feet/Greeting Card – At a child’s baptism, present the family with a Precious Feet pin and “Your New Baby – A Gift from God” card as a reminder that every child is valued.
Life Project: Infant Mourning Garden – A lovely, landscaped garden area with stone pavers and benches provides a quiet place for those mourning the loss of a child.
Life Project: The Blessings of Baptism – Invite members and their families to a celebration to thank God for their baptism the previous year. Festivities include a service followed by a time of fellowship and food.
Life Project: It’s Movie Night! – Pop some popcorn and get ready for the film to start! Plan a movie night showing a For Life film, offering snacks and drinks as well. Discussion following the film is encouraged.
Life Project: Baby Bottle Drive – A fun way to raise money for pregnancy resource centers is to provide baby bottles for people to fill with coins, cash, or checks.
Life Project: Life Sunday Celebrations – Life Sunday can be celebrated in a variety of ways. Here are a few ideas and resources to get started.
Life Project: Next Level Diaper Drive – Unlike a traditional diaper drive, one family receives donated diapers for the first three years of the baby’s life. This project can include more ways to connect to the family by providing a frozen meal, cards, and time of fellowship during the monthly diaper drop off.
Life Project: Issues as We Age – Spotlight on Life provides information and materials put together by Lutherans For Life that can be used for events such as this one on “Issues as We Age.” Organize a day filled with speakers, presentations, and take-home materials.
Life Project: Poster Contest for Grades 4-8 – A poster contest is a fun way to involve young people in promoting the value of life from fertilization to forever.
Life Project: Going Gracefully and Faithfully Resource Folder – As part of a presentation on end-of-life issues, offer folders filled with brochures and informative documents to assist families as they face end-of-life decisions.
Life Project: Marches for Life – Along with the March for Life in Washington, D.C., there are several March for Life events across the country. Learn more about them here.
Life Project: 364 Days of Devotion – The goal of this life project is to provide every member of a congregation with a devotional book to encourage one another to grow in their faith and stand firm in their beliefs.
Life Project: 1-2-3 Cards – Who doesn’t love to receive a handwritten note? This three-step process makes it easy. Just pick a card, write a note, and drop it in the mail. Envelopes are conveniently pre-addressed and stamped.
Life Project: Life Shines in Art – Creativity flowed into these projects. Maybe these giant mural and sanctuary banner projects will spark a creative idea for your group to do the same or something similar that celebrates life.
Life Project: Care Bags for a Maternity Home – Kitchen and bedding items were collected and notes were written to be placed in canvas bags that were given to the maternity home to help residents when moving into their own homes again.
Life Project: Human Trafficking—What Can You Do? – This Life Team planned a movie night showing a documentary on human trafficking in Michigan and invited a guest speaker to share information about a local shelter for women.
Life Project: Christmas Luncheon and Goody Bags for Older Adults – Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus’ birth and be with family and friends. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to attend Christmas events with their loved ones. The Christmas Luncheon was started many years ago by a pastor’s wife at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Illinois. As she became an older adult, the Good Shepherd Lutheran Life Team saw the importance in continuing the event and started hosting it.
Life Project: Gifting Special Books to Special People – For those of us who love to read, books are a very special gift indeed. The Life Team at Mount Olive Lutheran Church has two separate projects where books are the cherished gift.
