One Year After the Dobbs Leak…

It’s been one year since the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision was notoriously leaked. Since then, we have witnessed a significant response from Americans on both sides of this issue. Let’s take a snapshot view of the aftermath.

Time to Act

On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning the infamous January 22, 1973, Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide. Dobbs returned the abortion issue back to the states. The ruling enables states to enact their own laws on abortion—either banning or limiting the practice or making the practice legal.

2022 A.D. (after Dobbs)

We aim higher than elections, legislations, and judgments. We aspire to much more than ending abortion. We advocate for respecting and protecting every human life, no matter what his size or her skills or their circumstances. We undertake to see each member of our race received as neighbor, as gift and privilege, and as sister and brother with whom we may share in the blessings of our Heavenly Father’s everlasting inheritance. We intervene with community, purpose, joy, and hope wherever the devil’s deceptions pressure people to use death as a solution for difficulty. We strive to bring about not merely changed regulations or even changed behavior but changed minds, hearts, histories, and eternities. I’m writing twenty-four hours after the Supreme Court leak. It appears they’re preparing to reverse Roe v. Wade …

Roe v. Wade Overturned!

Lutherans For Life rejoices that an egregious injustice has been rectified. Thanks be to God for the Supreme Court’s reversal of the erroneous Roe v. Wade decision! Our nation and culture owe a great debt of gratitude to fifty years of Gospel-motivated voices For Life. Their faithful witness of courage and compassion has influenced successive generations to acknowledge the reality that God creates, redeems, and calls every human life to be His own precious treasure from fertilization to forever. And we delight to receive each one as a gift and a privilege …

A Standing “O” for Lutherans For Life

Serendipitous some would call it. Maybe others, a “God thing.” I stood in back of the Iowa District East convention assembly when President Saunders announced the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24 (also observed as the Nativity of leaping-for-joy-womb-resident John the Baptist, by the way!). Next to me stood Dr. Peter Scaer, Fort Wayne professor and convention essayist. He has been a great voice For Life, a friend of LFL, and my personal friend as well. We have spoken together on several occasions over the years. As the delegates stood and sang the doxology, we both wept. He then grabbed me and took a selfie! …

Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health – A Statement by John Eidsmoe

Fighting to overturn Roe v. Wade has been a crusade of my entire legal career. As a fledgling lawyer in 1971, I organized Lawyers for Life in Sioux City, Iowa, to successfully fight a liberalized Iowa abortion bill. Then, in 1973, the Supreme Court tied our hands with Roe v. Wade, saying abortion is a constitutional right, and therefore, any meaningful pro-life legislation would be struck down as unconstitutional …
