Saturday, September 12, 2020, is the 8th National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children.
Word of Hope and Lutherans For Life are here to help. You don’t have to struggle alone when in crisis about a life issue or suffer overwhelming guilt about contributing to a past decision, such as abortion.
The following prayers were offered on Facebook as part of a week-long commemoration of the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children which was observed on September 12.
A prayer Sunday, September 13, 2020, for parents and grandparents who grieve lives lost to abortion:
Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible, You have blessed us to “be fruitful and multiply.” You counsel parents and grandparents to receive children as “a heritage from the Lord.” You have commanded us, “Thou shalt not murder.” Visit the hearts of those who have lost little ones to the sin of abortion. Bring their consciences to contrition and confession for permitting, promoting, or participating in it. Relieve their guilt with the assurance that Your Son has suffered punishment in their place and the declaration of forgiveness for the sake of His atoning sacrifice. Heal their grief in the promise of resurrection to everlasting life and restoration in the new heavens and earth. And give them Gospel-motivated voices For Life as You work good from what once was intended for evil, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
A prayer for Monday, September 14, 2020:
Everlasting Father, through Jesus Christ You make the children of men Your own precious daughters and sons. In Your tender mercy, grant to all children awaiting adoption homes and families wherein they may receive Your love mediated through the care of parents. To those husbands and wives longing to adopt children, impart patience, hope, and comfort. Bless birth parents with courage and peace when they cannot raise their children and must arrange their adoption. And work compassion in Your Church to surround them all with community and support them out of the abundance You bestow, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
A prayer for Tuesday, September 15, 2020:
Gracious Savior, You generously lend Your healing power to our physicians and medical technologies. Be especially near to doctors and nurses who care for surprise pregnancies and treat terminal diagnoses. Forgive those who have made abortions and assisted suicides possible and turn their hearts. Let every healthcare servant witness the sanctity You have given to every human life and demonstrate it to us all in their selfless efforts to relieve and strengthen, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
A prayer for Wednesday, September 16, 2020:
Lord God Almighty, You have created our bodies, lives, and relationships, and You still preserve them moment after moment. You promise to protect and provide for us in every circumstance. You comfort and encourage us in our sufferings with Your presence and power. In Your gentleness draw near to rescue and relieve any who are experiencing poverty, abuse, or abandonment. Grant grace and strength especially to those carrying surprise pregnancies and considering the illusion of abortion as a solution. Open our hearts, our hands and homes to embrace and assist, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
A prayer for Thursday, September 17, 2020:
Lord Jesus Christ, You have come that all humankind might have life and have it abundantly. You took on our life, gave us Your own, and swallowed up death in resurrection to liberate us unto immortality. Fill our land with joy and hope over this gift that it may extend to every one of our neighbors. Endow our leaders with Your Word, Your Spirit, and Your power, to respect and protect the sanctity of all human lives, no matter what size, skills, or circumstances. Lift the scourge of elective abortion from us in both practice and policy, for Your name’s sake. Amen.
A prayer for Friday, September 18, 2020:
Lord of the harvest, You graciously invite us to have a hand in Your saving labors as You call us to a variety of vocations to serve You by serving our neighbors. You fit us each with the gifts of Your Spirit and bless our interests, abilities, and efforts. Let our toil bring joy to us and others as it supports life and struggles against sin and death. Guard and guide all who are employed in research and manufacturing that contribute ideas and devices to facilitate abortion. Embolden them to advocate against such practices and, if it be Your will, position them to curtail cooperation with them, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
