In January I wrote a letter to President Barack Obama. I would like to ask you to join me in praying for him and his family.
In my letter I asked him several questions, including whether he had ever considered that his mother, Ann Durham, may have considered an abortion when she found herself pregnant with him in the early 1960’s. I also said, “Very honestly, I don’t understand your point of view about life issues, especially since you were an at risk baby in the womb. You are so passionately pro-choice. Why is that?”
I also wrote, “I saw you on TV before you were elected talking about your faith in Christ. You talked about the fact that Jesus had died for your sins and that none of us are perfect. You said it is because of our sins that we need a Savior. I agreed with everything you said. You said you believe in God the Father and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. I want you to know that I’m going to continue to pray for you. I’m going to pray that the Holy Spirit, who lives in you as a believer, will change your heart and mind about life issues. And, I’m going to ask others to join me in praying for you.”
I also shared, “God’s inspired Word tells us about God the Father and our Savior. Some Christians don’t think they need God’s Word. They may have a Bible but it gathers dust on a shelf. President Obama, do you read the Bible on a regular basis? I hope so. If you don’t, I would encourage you to begin to read it. Rather than beginning in the Old Testament, begin by reading one book of the New Testament. May I suggest the Gospel of John in the New Testament? It’s a great book. It begins, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). These are powerful words. Jesus Christ, the Word referred to in the above verse, is true God and true man. Christians call this His dual nature.”
Besides encouraging him to read the Bible every day, I purchased and enclosed a GOD’S WORD for Life Bible for him and his family. This Bible is produced by Lutherans For Life.
So, again, I invite you to join me in praying for our president and his family. Pray that the Lord changes President Obama’s heart and mind on life issues, that he would grow in faith and knowledge of God’s Word, and become the leader that God desires him to be.
God’s Word tells us to: “Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). So, let’s continue to ask, seek, and knock on God’s door for a change of heart for President Obama. It also tells us; “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:18).
