Directions – September-October 2021

Gospel-motivated voices don’t have it easy.

Our message overflows with joy and hope. Our hearts know the courage of God’s grace and the compassion of His love. But our flesh feels anxious and ashamed because of our failings. And we face anger and isolation from the fallen world.

The words of our persecutors hurt. Satan tempts us to believe it’s either punishment or pointless. Thanks be to God the comfort of His forgiveness isn’t meant only for others. His resurrection covers us also with assurance and encouragement!

  1. Why do our neighbors need our Gospel-motivated voices (Jeremiah 8:11, 23:17; Romans 16:18; 2 Timothy 4:3-4)?
  2. Why do we want to give voice to God’s love for every human life (Acts 4:20; 2 Corinthians 4:13; Luke 6:45)?
  3. What troubles us most about this undertaking (Luke 21:16-17; Exodus 4:10; Isaiah 6:5)?
  4. How do we know that our suffering doesn’t come from God’s punishment (Isaiah 53:5; Romans 5:9-10; 1 John 2:1-2)?
  5. So what do our conversations proclaim and our interactions put into practice (2 Corinthians 4:5; 1 Corinthians 1:22-23; Luke 24:44-47)?
  6. Why do we believe this will take root in hearts and bear fruit in lives (Matthew 10:20; Luke 21:15; Isaiah 55:10-11)?
  7. What outcome do we eagerly anticipate (Psalm 51:13; James 5:19-20; Matthew 18:15)?
  8. How does our Heavenly Father sustain us in the struggles (Matthew 5:11-12; 1 Peter 4:12-14; Ezekiel 2:5; 2 Timothy 4:7-8)?
