Pro-lifers know the importance of showing love to the abortion-minded, not just during pregnancy, but also after birth. But what about married moms in the Church that we don’t see as “at risk”? They don’t need our support … or do they?

Up against a culture of death, even Christian mothers, and perhaps especially mothers of large families, may be a lonely, misunderstood minority.

How do large families fit into God’s plan for His kingdom? What motivation do these mothers of many have in a world where everything is against them? How can you concretely demonstrate Christ-like care for young families within the Church?

Join Marie MacPherson, author of “Mothering Many: Strategy-Saving Strategies from Moms of Four or More and Meditations on the Vocation of Motherhood” in a round-robin, thought-provoking discussion on the ins-and-outs of big families, including time for Q and A. Her only secret is no secret at all: grace, always grace!

Marie would like your feedback before the presentation on January 19:

Marie writes, “In lieu of moderating a live discussion, I will be collecting audience responses in advance to the controversial, vague statements below. In an email, choose to up to two of the statements below and write no more than three sentences in response. Don’t overthink: your response(s) should be ‘knee-jerk’ and not take more than five minutes to write. Don’t worry if we might come to different conclusions! Hearing different thoughts leaves the audience with a richer ‘discussion.’ I will keep all responses anonymous, unless you specifically ask me to share your name. Please note that due to time, not all responses will be shared. Please have responses sent to my email by January 17: mmacpher@blc.edu. Thank you for your help! I appreciate it!”

Fact or Fiction?

  1. That sex should be within marriage is the main Christian principle about procreation and fertility. Everything else is in the realm of science, and neither right nor wrong for a Christian.
  2. Christian couples should be good stewards regarding their fertility.
  3. Newlyweds need time to get to know each other. Watch out for those “honeymoon” babies!
  4. A couple who cannot afford children should use contraception.
  5. A loving husband should use contraception if his wife is exhausted from so many kids already or if she’s at risk of a serious health complication.
  6. At some point, parents should stop having kids for the sake of the older ones.
  7. Doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or a girl, as long as it’s healthy!
