We will cover: \n\nThe God given value of all life\nInfertility\nIn vitro fertilization\nEmbryo adoption\nThe embryo adoption process\n\nOur Presenters: \nKim Laube\, Director of Life Ministries\, Lutheran Family Service \nJim Lamb\, Life Advocate\, Lutheran Family Service \nRev. Dr. Jim Lamb received a B.A. in Biology from Mankato State University in 1973. After serving in the U.S. Air Force\, he attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis receiving his Master of Divinity in 1982 and his Doctor of Ministry in 1994. Dr. Lamb served as senior pastor at St. Paul\, Garner\, Iowa\, for fourteen years. In 1996 he accepted the position of executive director of national Lutherans For Life where he served for twenty years. In December of 2016\, he accepted a part time position as a Life Advocate for Lutheran Family Service. He still maintains a busy speaking schedule and is the author of numerous essays\, articles\, and booklets on a variety of life issues including infertility\, in vitro fertilization\, and adoption. He and his wife\, RoxAnne\, live in Marshalltown\, Iowa. \nKim Laube earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1991. Kim has worked in several different capacities including Executive Director of Iowans For L.I.F.E.\, adoption and pregnancy counselor\, and Life Ministries Director for Lutheran Family Service. All her work has surrounded the central notion that all human life is valuable. Kim’s work involves both the beginning and end of life stages. She leads the embryo adoption program at Lutheran Family Service where they advocate for the lives of tiny embryos who have been created through in vitro feralization and are cryopreserved. The futures for these embryos are unknown and at risk to be killed if other opportunities like embryo adoption are not available to them. Kim also works to preserve the sanctity at the end of life. She has created programming to discuss the dangers of physician assisted suicide within congregations in Iowa.

SUMMARY:Hope-Day Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:Hope-Day Bible Study Starting February 24! \nExtra! Extra! Beginning February 24th\, our Word of Hope director\, Deaconess Chrissie Gillet\, will be leading online Bible studies with a focus on life issues on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month (and 2nd and 4th Saturday during Lent) at 7:00 p.m. CT / 8:00 p.m. ET. Contact Deaconess Chrissie with comments or questions at cgillet@lutheransforlife.org. \nJoin the study on Microsoft Teams: https://tinyurl.com/y3k98n7u \nMarked by God: \nThis is a Bible study on what it means to be marked by God. More specifically\, the mark received in Baptism that proclaims who you are and whose you are. \nFirst\, we consider a variety of terms associated with being marked and their usage in Scripture to gain a deeper understanding of ‘what does this mean – being marked.’ We will also reference some familiar Bible stories that provide Christocentric context to the visible marks identifying God’s people and the signs pointing toward their promised Savior. \nNext\, we will explore the Sacrament of Baptism and the Scriptural meaning of individual acts in the Rite of Baptism that signifies someone as belonging to the Lord. A brief look at sections of Revelation will illuminate the comfort we have in being marked by God when Christ comes again to fulfill His promises. Until then\, we live in a fallen world\, and we benefit from knowing we are not of this world. Therefore\, our Bible study will conclude with various ways we may continually remember what God did for you in Baptism. \n“Invisible suffering is often worse than visible suffering. Yet\, God is aware of all our suffering and He gives it purpose. As such\, those who are suffering\, visibly or silently\, are indispensable.”

Our Word of Hope director\, Deaconess Chrissie Gillet\, leads online Bible studies with a focus on life issues on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month (and 2nd and 4th Saturday during Lent) at 7:00 p.m. CT / 8:00 p.m. ET. Contact Deaconess Chrissie with comments or questions at cgillet@lutheransforlife.org. \nJoin the study on Microsoft Teams: Link \nMarked by God: \nThis is a Bible study on what it means to be marked by God. More specifically\, the mark received in Baptism that proclaims who you are and whose you are. \nFirst\, we consider a variety of terms associated with being marked and their usage in Scripture to gain a deeper understanding of “what does this mean – being marked.” We will also reference some familiar Bible stories that provide Christocentric context to the visible marks identifying God’s people and the signs pointing toward their promised Savior. As such\, those who are suffering\, visibly or silently\, are indispensable.” \nHope-Day Bible Study Resources

SUMMARY:For Life Live - A Conversation with Carol Tobias\, President of National Right to Life
DESCRIPTION:For Life Live – The Movement of Love and the 55-Front Fight for Life \nOur guest: Carol Tobias\, President\, National Right to Life Committee \nTuesday\, April 20\, 2021 – 7:00 p.m. CDT / 8:00 p.m. EDT \nRegister in advance for this presentation:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcsceyurzopGtB5_9DQvUXLG8aogIsr6cnZ \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the presentation. \nThe Biden administration is moving quickly to undo all pro-life measures enacted in the previous four years. Legislation—good and bad—is moving at the federal and state levels. The courts are ruling. Pro-euthanasia forces continue to fight for legalized assisted suicide. What’s big? What’s in the pipeline? The Movement of Love is called to speak up for those who have no voice. We do that by making our voices heard in our nation’s capital and in our own states. \nCarol Tobias is president of the National Right to Life Committee\, the nation’s oldest and largest pro-life organization. A native of North Dakota\, she has served on the National Right to Life board of directors since 1987. From 1983 to 1991\, she was executive director of North Dakota Right to Life and in 1991 was hired as National Right to Life Political Director\, a position she held until 2005. During her tenure as political director\, pro-life majorities were elected to both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. In both 2000 and 2004\, she oversaw the efforts of National Right to Life’s political action committee on behalf of George W. Bush. In 2014\, she testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in opposition to the Women’s Health Protection Act\, which is more appropriately called the “Abortion Until Birth Without Limits Act.” She has appeared on ABC’s World News Tonight\, NBC’s Today Show\, CNN\, The News Hour on PBS\, C-SPAN\, and Fox News Channel\, as well as numerous television and radio programs throughout the country. She has been quoted in the New York Times\, Wall Street Journal\, Washington Post\, Los Angeles Times\, and USA Today.

Learn how you and your Life Chapter or Life Team can support both these projects as well as how you might expand this vision and support to your local community. \nAbout RLOM (www.rlom.org): “Motivated by God’s grace\, Redeeming Life Outreach Ministries seeks to reach out with the love of Christ to support single expectant and postpartum mothers. We do this by providing a safe and stable home. The women have opportunities for growth in their relationship with their Savior\, as well as career\, parenting\, and life skills education. We are a pro-life ministry. We support our mothers whether they choose to place their baby for adoption or to parent. Either way\, we walk alongside them in their journey. Every woman who calls Redeeming Life home will find help\, love\, and support.” \nRev. Edward DeWitt & his wife\, Sheryl\, are the founders of Redeeming Life Outreach Ministries. The DeWitts shared a dream of 25 years to open a home for women in crisis pregnancies who were at risk of aborting their unborn child. In November 2013\, that dream became a reality as the first home\, now known as the Southward House\, opened its doors. Inside this home is a comprehensive residential program for women who want to choose life for their child and lack the necessary resources to do so. In August 2018\, as Redeeming Life approached its five-year anniversary\, the ministry celebrated the opening of phase two\, a transitional home\, which offers graduates of the maternity home program continued stabilization and residential services. \nSheryl is the Executive Director of Redeeming Life. Prior to founding the ministry\, Sheryl had a successful career in the insurance industry as underwriting manager and quality assurance officer. Rev. DeWitt\, President and Chairman of the Board of Redeeming Life\, is the pastor of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer\, Sanford\, Florida. Prior to entering the seminary in 1991\, Rev. DeWitt had a long and successful career in corporate real estate. Sheryl and Rev. DeWitt have been married for 39 years and together raised three children. The DeWitts are grandparents to three grandchildren and four granddogs.

SUMMARY:For Life Live – Procreation: The First Blessing\, Purpose\, and Command
DESCRIPTION:June 1\, 2021 – 7:00 p.m. CDT / 8:00 p.m. EDT \nRegister in advance for this meeting:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAuce2gqjkqG9agnZrDnHln0tdUMlJpA0xg \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nWhat is the first blessing God gives? What is the first purpose of marriage? What is the first command? Procreation! “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth” (Genesis 1:28). But too often procreation is not seen as a “first” when people\, including Christians\, look at sexuality\, marriage\, or general good living. But … what if procreation is still God’s first blessing\, purpose\, and command for humanity even today? \n\nDeciding to have or not have (more) children is a conversation that too often centers on the desires and devices of the couple. But what if we begin the discussion instead with God’s purpose and plan? \nProcreation: The First Blessing:\nProcreation is a blessing\, not a burden. In the very beginning\, God made man (male and female) in his image and blessed them to be co-creators with him. It’s in man’s nature to reflect the creativity of God. From buildings and bridges to symphonies and sculptures\, man desires to make things that are good and beautiful. But there is no bigger or better way that man mirrors the Creator than procreating children according to God’s design and training them up in the will of God. Imagine that amazing invitation that God gives husbands and wives to join him in his ongoing and eternal work of creation! Fallen human nature tries to be “like God” in ways God has forbidden. That always and only leads to disastrous results. But through godly procreation\, man and woman actually become like God in the original way God intended: creating more people in his (and our!) image to join in exercising rightful dominion over all creation. \nProcreation: The First Purpose of Marriage:\nProcreation is a primary purpose\, not an optional add-on for marriage. Genesis gives two primary purposes for marriage: procreation (chapter 1) and love union (chapter 2). The two creation accounts complement\, not compete against\, each other. So\, Christians are to similarly elevate equally the two original purposes of marriage. However\, procreation is commonly pushed to the backseat while “love” drives the marriage. But biblically\, procreation and love union go hand-in-hand\, naturally joined in the one-flesh embrace of husband and wife. Sadly\, when church and state no longer see procreation as essential to the meaning of marriage\, the door is opened to all manner of deviations and devaluations of sexuality and life. \nProcreation: The First Command:\nWhile emphasizing that procreation is a blessing\, we also need to be clear that the Bible also speaks of it as a command. In fact\, it is the first command God gives\, and it’s the only command given pre-Fall that remains in effect post-Fall. This command is explicitly given at creation and immediately after the Flood. However\, the force of the command is seen throughout the Old Testament. The New Testament does offer an alternative to marriage (celibacy). It also infuses marriage with additional meaning (represents the relationship between Christ and the church). Even so\, it does not repeal procreation as the first blessing\, purpose\, and command. God restores\, not replaces\, his good creation. \nAbout the Speaker: \nThe Rev. Joseph D. Signore III received a B.A. in theology and theological languages from Concordia University Chicago in 2008. He was formed for pastoral ministry at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis\, Missouri and graduated with an M.Div. in 2013. He was the pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Pomona\, California\, for the next five years. In 2018 he was called to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ocala\, Florida\, and has been their pastor to this day. His hobby is to research\, write\, and speak on the ethics of contraception. He is married to Anna. Their children include Danny (5)\, Titus (nearly 3)\, and Julia due soon to be born.

SUMMARY:For Life Live – Disposable: When Dating is Not Loving Your Neighbor
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, June 15 – 7:00 p.m. CDT / 8:00 p.m. EDT \nRegister in advance for this meeting:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwkf-qqqzMjH9LFayImCOv-b5CLEWWkcCZP \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nEverything in our society is now viewed as disposable and not just things we buy but relationships and undesirables too\, including the unborn. The great commandments to love God and our neighbor\, which are greatly ignored\, stand opposed to the disposing of people and relationships\, while offering us a better way of living. \nThese commandments should prompt us to completely rethink the subject of dating and relationships. In particular\, since the dominant dating culture is based on selfishness\, it needs to be replaced by a culture in which friendship and love of neighbor are paramount. In doing this\, we will come to realize that almost everything we’ve heard about dating and relationships is wrong. It’s really not about techniques and methodologies that promise us that special someone. \nTopics to be discussed:  \n\ncharacteristics of the dominant dating culture\nhow Christian teaching and practice differ from that culture\nthe history that led us to this point\na better approach to relationships\, in view of the great commandments\nthe need for sexual morality and purity\nconstructing a godly counterculture\n\nAbout the presenter/author: \nDaniel E. Johnson studied math and physics at the University of Virginia and earned a PhD in physics from the University of Illinois. (You can call him “Doctor” after he performs his first operation; until then\, it’s “Dan.”) After that he served as an officer in the US Air Force and worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Würzburg in Germany. He currently works in the legal field in Silicon Valley (California)\, where he is the happy husband of one wife and the proud father of their son. \nHe is a scientist by profession and a philosopher at heart\, a Christian who believes in an ordered universe. For him\, faith and reason are complementary\, not contradictory. He believes they allow us to think about things from different perspectives\, to explore the world of ideas\, and to arrive at deeper understanding\, thereby impacting the culture. \nOne topic at the intersection of faith\, reason\, and culture that has always fascinated him is how men and women treat each other. The subject of his first book (“Disposable: When Dating Is Not Loving Your Neighbor”) is something he has been thinking about almost his entire life\, although most of its content grew out of his thoughts and experiences as a young adult\, prior to getting married. He has been able to test those ideas over time\, arriving at a presentation that he hopes is insightful\, helpful to the reader\, and true to Christian values. \nA complimentary e-book (“Disposable: When Dating Is Not Loving Your Neighbor”) will be available to all attendees.
