Biblical Manhood –
Understanding the unique way in which we were created doesn’t make us fully men.
Getting married and having a family doesn’t make us a man. Success in our
businesses, achieving great wealth and power, receiving honor and praise by our
peers—these are not the measure of real masculinity, biblical manhood. To be
truly a man, biblically, we must commit ourselves with the will and the strength
that only God can give us—to the pursuit of godliness. This is biblical manhood.

The
Handiwork of God brochure tells us that the value of human life
comes from what God has done and continues to do! Life is His
handiwork! He creates life with His hands. He redeemed life
with His hands. He holds His children by the hand.
When we
understand these answers, then, as we confront difficult issues,
some questions won’t even need to be asked. This is a wonderful
resource for both congregational and school use!

New book!
A Love for Life – Christianity's
Consistent Support of the Unborn, by Dennis Di Mauro,
examines the question, "Is abortion ethical?" The answer to this
question is often obscured by rhetoric, slogans, and politics.
And the media message on abortion is often of little help. When
the typical American opens up her morning newspaper, she sees
the topic debated between pro-lifers and pro-choicers but
receives little information that could help her make an informed
moral decision. And as she reads further about the subject, it
seems that the Christian church, often an ethical guide in many
of her decisions, is of no use to her. Sadly, she is told that
the church is just as divided as the rest of society on the
topic. So our average American is left to fend for herself. She
must somehow decide the right answer with little guidance from
society, from the church, or even from God himself.
Has God been silent on the abortion
question? Has the church really shown a diversity of opinion on
the sanctity of life?
A Love for Life will provide
Christians with the biblical and historical information that
they need to make an informed decision on the abortion question.
It will also take a critical and biblically-based look at the
arguments and theologies of today's most prominent pro-choice
clergy. And it will determine if abortion really fulfills the
will of God, as many pro-choice Christians believe, or whether
abortion is a clearly sinful act. In short, readers of A Love
for Life will discover the real message of the church on
abortion.

Stem Cell Research and Cloning 101: A
Primer is hosted by Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb. He says, "I want to
make it clear from the beginning that this presentation is not going
to be complicated and hard to understand. I will be presenting the
basics of stem cell research and cloning. There are two reasons for
that. First, I am not a scientist or an expert in these areas so I
cannot make it complicated! Second, all we need to know are the
basics. Once we understand the basic biology involved, we will be
able to apply God’s Word to these technologies—and God’s Word is
where we want to begin." (37 minutes)

In A Life Not Like Any Other,
Roberta Bandy shares how many new parents talk about counting the fingers and
toes—carefully checking all the outward signs of normalcy. With all accounted
for, the parent breathes a sigh of relief—and hopefully gives thanks. But there
are other parents whose only sigh is that which comes after many tears. What
they see on the outside is not normal and for them there is no immediate
relief—and sadly many never learn to give thanks. This is the story of such a
child—unlike any other child born that particular day—yet a child whose life had
hope, meaning, and purpose. (This story was featured in the
Fall 2006 edition of LifeDate.)

Sidestepping Sin? –
"It is time that the leadership in the Church re-examine the Scriptures and
return to a biblical standard of right and wrong. It is time that we talk about
personal sin, responsibility, and the need for repentance," says Pastor Thomas
Parrish. "When we are willing to come honestly before the Lord with our personal
sin, then we can speak openly about the problem of sin."
Also included in this brochure is A Voice for
Truth by Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb. "The Word of Life speaks to the value God
gives to every human life. The Word of Life speaks of forgiveness and healing
for those who have sinned against life. The Word of Life speaks of a loving God
who is present and at work in the difficult circumstances of our lives. What a
positive truth we have to share! What a positive voice we can be! What a
positive influence we can have on the Church and on society."

Martin Luther: An Example for Christians Who Want to
Change Their Culture by Linda D. Bartlett (PDF). This Bible study
will help you become more familiar, not just with the man Martin Luther, but
with the ways that he helped change western civilization through the use of
God’s Word. Because Luther was moved by the Holy Spirit to take a stand on the
Word of God, western civilization was never the same. With the Sword of the
Spirit, Luther’s reforms affected church, state, education, and home. We, too,
are called like Luther to use God’s Word to live distinctively different from
the world.

Speak Up For Life - "Speak Up!" That's what
Lutherans For Life encourages God's people to do!
It is tragically true that too often the Church, as a whole, has
failed to speak up For Life or has done so weakly. It is also
especially disappointing since God Himself has never been silent
when it comes to life. This booklet takes a look at life issues
based on Luther's Small Catechism—and is sized to insert
right into the catechism itself! Does the catechism have anything to
say about life? Yes!

Second Thoughts about
Living Together
– “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let
the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral
and adulterous.” (Hebrews 13:4
ESV)
If there is one thing that
all parish pastors have in common that proves time and again to be a
persistent and vexing problem, it is the challenge of couples who
present themselves for marriage but who are already living together.
In response to frequent
requests for a concise, faithfully Biblical resource to help couples
reflect on the issues raised by living together, and to help pastors
minister in such situations, the resource entitled Second Thoughts
About Living Together has been prepared by Concordia Publishing
House.
This booklet is in a
Question and Answer format. Some of the questions include:
-
What is Marriage?
-
Who regulates marriage:
Church or State?
-
What is the purpose of
marriage?
-
What’s so important
about a piece of paper?
-
What about so-called
Common Law marriages?
-
Is living together such
a great offense?
