God Loves Life [On a sheet of paper, write the words “God Loves Life.” Hold up the banner for the children to read.] Who can read the words on this banner? Yes, the message reads God Loves Life. We know that message is the truth, because in the Bible God tells us many times how precious and valuable each one of us is to Him. He loves every human life, no matter how big or small, weak or strong. We know God loves life because He created each and every life. We know God loves life because He sent Jesus to die for each and every life! That’s a lot of love! In fact, God loved you before you were born! You may think that your life began on the day you were born, on your “birth–day.” But your life really began a long time before your “birth–day.” It began on your “life–day.” On that day God joined two cells together—one from your father and one from your mother—and you became a unique individual. You became a one-of-a-kind treasure! When your life began you were smaller than the dot on that “i.” [Point to the dot.] When you were that small God already knew if you were a boy or a girl, if you had brown hair or blond hair, blue eyes or brown eyes, even if you would like broccoli or not. He knew everything about you. He loved and cared for you in a special place He prepared for you to grow inside of your mother. Then on your “birth–day,” everyone was very excited, because now they could see you, and hold you, and cuddle you. Everyone loved you! God loved you because God loves life! God loves every life. Sometimes children are born with a “disability.” Perhaps they can’t see or they can’t hear. Or perhaps they can’t learn very quickly or walk very well. Do you think God loves those children too? Yes, of course He does. He has a special plan for every life He creates even though we cannot always understand what His plan might be. God promises that He is always with us and that He will give us whatever we need to overcome any problems we might have. Someone who loved us enough to send Jesus to die for us is certainly not going to leave us all alone! He is our very best Friend. He listens to us and helps us. He loves us and cares for us. God loves life! God loves every life. As people grow older, they sometimes get weak and forgetful. They don’t have the energy to do the things they did when they were younger. Sometimes they must go to live in a special place called a nursing home where other people take care of them. Sometimes they can’t feed themselves or dress themselves. They need other people to take care of all their needs. Do you think God loves those people even though they are old and sickly and can’t do anything for themselves? Yes, He does! He tells us we are to honor and respect all people and He wants us to love and care for people who can’t take care of themselves. So, no matter if a person is very big or very small, is strong or weak, sick or healthy—God loves every human life. And as His children, He wants us to love and care for others too. Can you all read the words on the banner with me? Yes, God Loves Life—no matter what its size or condition. As you drive or walk home from church today, think about the ways you might show God’s love to others, especially those with special needs. Share your ideas with your parents and other members of your family. [As the children return to their seats, have the congregation sing the song God Loves Life.] Lutherans For Life • 1120 South G Avenue • Nevada, IA 50201-2774 (888) 364-LIFE • (515) 382-2077 • Fax (515) 382-3020 info@lutheransforlife.org • www.lutheransforlife.org Item #1828
