The Handiwork of God Bible Verse: “Your hands fashioned and made me.” (Job 10:8a ESV) Object: Something handmade by someone special. For example, an afghan made by grandma or a birdhouse your dad made, etc. If it’s torn or worn or ragged, all the better! Today we are talking about hands. We can do a lot of things with our hands. [Have children join in the following motions.] We can raise our hands. [Do so.] We can clap our hands. [Do so.] We can fold our hands. [Do so.] And we can make things with our hands. [Move your hands as if forming a piece of clay.] [Show object.] Here is something made by someone’s hands. Even though it’s old and a bit worn, this is very special. It’s special because my [grandma] made it. When something is handmade by someone who loves you, it is very special indeed. Did you know that you are very special because you were hand made by someone who loves you? Listen to what the Bible says, “Your hands [God] fashioned me and made me.” Wow! The Bible tells us that when we were growing inside our moms, God was shaping us and making us. [Do forming motion.] Each one of you, all of us, are special because we were hand made by God! But there is something else that makes you special. God loved what He made with His hands so much that He sent Jesus. Jesus showed how much He loved us by stretching out His hands and dying on a cross to save us. [Stretch out hands as if on cross.] Wow! Each one of you, all of us, are special because one, God made us with His hands [Do forming motion and have children join you.] and two, God sent Jesus who saved us with His hands. [Stretch out hands with children.] But we’re not done! There is one more thing that makes you special. The Bible tells us that God, who made us with His hands [Do motion.], God, who saved us with His hands [Stretch out hands.], this same God now holds us in His hands. [Cup hands together as if holding something.] God is always with you and watching over you. Wow! Each one of you, all of us, are special because one, God made us with His hands [Do forming motion with children.] two, God sent Jesus who saved us with His hands [Stretch out hands with children.], and three, God holds us in His hands. [Do holding motion.] Yes, we are talking about hands today. We can do a lot of things with our hands. We can raise our hands. [Do so.] We can clap our hands. [Do so.] We can fold our hands. [Do so.] And we can make things with our hands. [Do forming motion.] But the most important hands we are talking about today are God’s hands. His hands make us special because: He made us with His hands. [Do motion.], He saved us with His hands [Do motion.], and He holds us in His hands. [Do motion.] Let’s fold our hands and pray. “Thank you, God for making us special with Your hands. May we always treat others as the special work of Your hands. In Jesus name, Amen.” In the Hand of God • Life Sunday Children’s Message The Handiwork of God written by Rev. Dr. James I.
