Christmas Is an End and Beginning

Christmas is an end and a beginning. Jesus’ birth marks the end of His nine-month development in Mary’s womb. Jesus “became flesh”—became a human being—at the moment of His holy conception (Luke 1:35). He developed as we all did, except without sin (Hebrews 2:14-17, 4:15). Jesus’ birth marks the beginning of His being seen and dwelling among us as the Son of the Father “full of grace and truth.”

What joyous things to celebrate! What a joy to celebrate that Jesus’ holy conception and development in the womb took the place of our un-holiness from the moment of conception (Psalm 51:5). What a joy to celebrate that, in this face lying in a manger, we see the face of God who would reveal His glory and demonstrate His love through His suffering and death on a cross (Romans 5:8).

Yes, at Christmas we celebrate the ending of a pregnancy and the beginning of seeing the glory of God in the face of Christ and we look forward to the new beginning His death and resurrection would bring.

On behalf of the staff here at National Lutherans For Life and our network of state affiliates and chapters across the country, I pray you will have a joyous Christmas celebration and that the peace of God in the Christ child will be with you.
